Clean Water for Nigeria Fundraiser Update

Special thanks to all who participated in our Advent Conspiracy campaign during the 2011 Christmas season. Together, we raised $5607.02 which will be used to drill fresh water wells in Northern Nigeria. The two villages likely to receive these wells are the Shiti (“shee-tee”) Village in Kano State and the Dutse (“doot-see”) village in Jigawa State.
 
These villages are deep in the Northern part of Nigeria, and the implications will be huge in light of all of the recent violence there by radical Islamic groups. Pastor Isaac has begun the work in Kano and will be starting the work in Jigawa soon. Pastor Jason from EastHill will be in Nigeria from   February 14th-28th and plans to send us an update on the work that is being done as soon as he can. Please pray for the safe travel of the team and the Lord’s anointing, as they teach several training sessions for pastors and   leaders in the region.

SouthHills Parenting Seminar - Saturday, February 25th, 9:30-11:30 AM @ Living Hope Church

Being a parent is a hard job--that requires constant "updates", support and people to commiserate with! That is why on Saturday, February 25th from 9:30-11:30 AM we will be hosting a parenting seminar at Living Hope Church (2801 W. 18th Ave--Eugene). This will be an encouraging time to hear different philosophies on the topic of DISCIPLINE, as well as pick up some practical applications and useful tools. After-Service Potluck Brunch
 
Please join us the morning of Sunday, March 4th for a time of food, fun and fellowship with an after-service potluck brunch! Here is how you can participate: Plan on bringing one of your favorite recipes to church that morning. Think: casseroles, quiches, salads, bread or dessert...But, really, anything goes! SouthHills will provide an assortment of drinks and eating paraphernalia (plates, bowls, plasticware, napkins). "Restocking the Shelves" - Volunteers Needed for Service Teams

Decor Help
We are currently looking for folks who might be willing to help beautify the gymnasium for our services. There are two ways you can get involved if this interests you:

 

  1. Serve on one of our colored teams and pitch-in once a month
  2. Serve on our "special occasions" team and serve every once-in-a-while (i.e. Easter, Christmas, etc.).

Kitchen Help
We are also looking for folks who might be willing to help out in the kitchen once a month--either coming an hour before church and handling set-up, staying an hour after church and handling clean-up, or both. Children's Ministry Help

Men's & Women's Evening Bible Study

This winter, Pastor John Rice will be facilitating an eight-week Bible study for men and women on the book of Daniel. This group will meet on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30 PM at Living Hope Church (2801 W. 18th Avenue--Eugene). Study format will include: discussion, application and prayer. Women's Morning Bible Study
Also this winter, Pastor Shannon Kearney will be facilitating a Bible study for women titled: "Winning the Battle For Your Mind". This group will meet on Wednesday mornings from 9:00-11:00 AM at Living Hope Church (2801 W. 18th Avenue--Eugene). Study format will include: discussion, application and prayer. Childcare provided. Save-The-Date for Camp Stonewood - Summer 2012

Just a heads-up as we head into the new year and families start to make plans for the summer..."Camp Stonewood" (a camp for 1st-8th graders) will be held Thursday, July 26th-Saturday, July 28th at John and Laura Rices (36031 N. Morningstar Road--Pleasant Hill). 4th-8th Grade: 2 nights (Thur-Sat); 1st-3rd Grade: 1 night (Fri-Sat). Whether you have kids you'd like to send to camp or are interested in volunteering, please save-the-date and there will be more information to come.
